Radio controlled tanks are fast becoming one of the most popular forms of remote controlled modelling. Though not seen as being as glamorous as remote controlled cars, planes and boats, they are however one of the most precise forms of radio controlled modelling there is.

Radio controlled tanks are rarely flights of fancy. Unlike many other forms of remote controlled modelling, tanks are (on the whole) extremely accurate representations of real vehicles, both modern and vintage right down to the last detail.

RC Tank modellers are not glorifying war, they are not making light of the countless lives that have been lost in conflicts around the globe over the last century since the first tank rolled onto a battled field. Radio Control Tanks modellers celebrate mans ability to overcome the odds.

It is unfortunate that a large portion of human technological development has occurred because of the necessities brought about by war. The tank is just another example of this development. Indeed since the first primitive man swung a tree branch in self defence, humans have responded to need throughout the ages.

Many believe the concept of the modern tank goes back to Leonardo da Vinci. I think it goes back further, a lot further.

In ancient times the Greeks and Romans had a battle strategy known as the Phalanx. This Phalanx saw a group of men in tight formation hold their shields in overlapping fashion above their heads, in front and to the side to make an impenetrable armoured formation capable of withstanding a barrage of fire from their enemies while moving forward unimpeded. Isn’t this a pretty accurate description of what tanks still do today?
